In July, 212,672 people were apprehended at the United States southern border. This was the highest number in 21 years and a 13% increase from June.
There were more than 19,000 unaccompanied children detained at the border, likely the second-highest total on record.
And this unprecedented flood of illegal immigrants came during the hottest summer weeks, which is typically when border crossings decrease. So is it any surprise that morale has been absolutely crushed for U.S. Border Patrol agents?
“Everyone shows up to work sort of downtrodden, almost dead inside, for lack of a better term,” the border Patrol’s union stated. “They’re not allowed to [do] the job, and they know that people are getting away every single day, every hour.”
